As a leading provider of consulting support in restoration, mitigation, and biogenic shoreline reef management, we are dedicated to serving the needs of our clients. Dr. Russell Burke is the chief consultant and has been providing advisory support to federal, state and local government agencies, as well as non-profit organizations, private companies, and individual homeowners for more than five years. Dr. Burke earned his Bachelors of Science in Marine Science and Environmental Science from Rider University, and a Ph.D. in Marine Science from the College of William and Mary's School of Marine Science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. Currently, he is a full-time professor at Christopher Newport University with a thriving, externally-funded research program. Consulting remains a passion for Dr. Burke and he has developed Biogenic Solutions Consulting, LLC to make himself available to agencies, companies, and individuals in need of his expertise.

With a career commitment to Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay, Biogenic Solutions Consulting and Broadwater Concepts have invested years into biogenic breakwater reef technology. Expertise in oyster reef restoration and living shorelines has enabled us to offer novel, biogenic solutions to private homeowners, commercial waterfront properties, and municipalities seeking more natural, sustainable approaches to shoreline   protection and oyster reef development. We are proud to serve in this capacity as our systems provide a reprieve from erosive wave energy, accelerate oyster reef community development, and allow for customization suitable to address both physical and budgetary constraints specific to each project site.

Biogenic Solutions Consulting, LLC has been a member of the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission's Fight The Flood (FTF) Program (https://fightthefloodva.com/directory) since 2020 and partners with numerous other FTF member companies to serve the needs of the Virginia's Middle Peninsula.

Dr. Burke wishes potential clients to be aware of his commitments as a professor such that, during the academic year (mid-August through mid-May) his communications and work on BSC-related projects will be limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays. However, other BSC consultants are available throughout the year and, in coordination with Dr. Burke, will work to meet client needs.
